I'll have to check that out, I'm surprised at myself that I didn't try the drivers at Nvidia's site. At nvidia's site I only see the 180.51 version; is that the one you meant? I will still try it since the one in ubuntu's repository is version 180.44. I believe the hanging doesn't happen using xorg's nv driver, but I'll double check. I'll let you know how things go.
