@sconklin: Thanks for taking a look at this, Steve. There's a PPA of a kernel module for this camera here:
https://launchpad.net/~intuitivenipple/+ppa-packages The package is r5u870-dkms. I can modprobe r5u870, and nothing appears in /var/log/messages. However, when I run 'cheese', it doesn't find the camera. There is nothing at /dev/video. If I run camorama, I get an error dialog: Error (camorama): Could not connect to video device (/dev/video0).
