Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
kernel : Kernel 2.6.30-5-generic
Release: 9.10

i expected the system to load normally without hangs

it's hangs after grub menu on black screen

i've been instructed by someone to remove the "quiet splash" kernel options
from the grub command
doing that, i can login into X, else i can login using the "single" kernel
option, but not using the "quiet splash"
and on each case i don't see the splash screen although the graphic cards is
installed using "navyng" package

with help of "whoop" an ubuntu forum member, i was able to see the splash
screen using the kernel option "vga=0x318"
but the loading progress isn't centered into the screen

System information: Laptop Acer 3102WLMi/ AMD Sempron 3200/ ATI Radeon
Xpress 1100
