If you are able to get the latest mesa drivers added to the 9.04 repo, please let me know and I will be happy to reinstall Jaunty on a separate harddrive on my hardware and confirm if it helps.
Also, when I have time next week I will install Karmic and confirm the results with my hardware. -- After installing, there is no desktop.
