For me the situation is the same as for Jesper Steinicke Würtz (Dell Vostro 1310 with problems after upgrade.
As I thought this was a Bug in X.org I (erroneously) filed a bug report: Bug #378866 I've included the output of lspci for further information. Besides not being able to login I don't find any error messages in the logs (no HAL crash etc.). And, as others have already noted: this is _VERY_ annoying. I also regret having updated to 9.04.
