I'm also experiencing this bug with the following error message.
$ tulip
get fences failed: -1
param: 6, val: 0
Segmentation fault
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04
$ LANG=C apt-cache policy tulip
