Thank you very much for your bug report. Gnomesword is no longer developed. It has been renamed into Xiphos see xiphos.org
I believe this issue is fixed in the new upstream release, I cannot reproduce it with Xiphos 3.0. It is Ubuntu policy not to introduce new packages into old releases. Crosswire packaging team is working on updating Sword, Xiphos, Bibletime and Bibledit in Debian and Karmic. But additionally we provide our packages for older releases.
