What about the latest ubuntu LTS (which is Hardy at the moment) ? This issue mostly effects servers, because software raid is rarely used on the average desktop machine. We prefer to install the latest Ubuntu coming with long term support on servers. It is very important, that these servers are able to boot unattended especially if one of the disks has failed.
