Hi Jarl, thank you for your interest in wader/VMC. To be honest it makes sense to package them both, they are established and have a significant user base, and they are going to co-exist for a long time. You might want to coordinate yourself with Alexander Sack ( @asac ), the Ubuntu NetworkManager maintainer, who expressed interest on packaging both projects too just a couple of days ago. Both projects already sport a debian dir, so it should be a matter of checking that the packaging conforms with Ubuntu/Debian guidelines.
