to reproduce, setup the nvida drivers uninstall linux-headers, you may have to uninstall the nvidia driver, and install it again without the linux headers... it looks like the linux-headers package installation takes care of installing the nvidia kernel module).. or just wait for a kernel upgrade,
reboot the computer -- it comes up in the "Graphics don't work mode" tell it to go back to default configuration (it'll use the NV driver) restart the computer -- it comes up in NV driver or svga... something with lower color density go to the drivers tool from the K menu, select nvidia 180, it does not highlight, and there is no error message. exit this. apt-get install the linux-headers go to the drivers tool select nvidia 180, it highlights! log-off and restart x server it comes back in accelerated glory.
