Public bug reported: Binary package hint: powernowd
Everytime I load the CPU Frequency Applet, I got an error message saying CPU Frequency Scaling is not Supported. But manually I can make it work if I load p4-clockmod module. ---- This is my input ---- [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe p4-clockmod [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo powernowd powernowd: PowerNow Daemon v0.97, (c) 2003-2006 John Clemens powernowd: Found 1 scalable unit: -- 1 'CPU' per scalable unit powernowd: cpu0: 300Mhz - 2400Mhz (8 steps) ------------------------------ ---- lspci ---- [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset Host Bridge (rev 04) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset AGP Bridge (rev 04) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 42) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801CAM ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801CAM IDE U100 (rev 02) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] 02:04.0 Communication controller: Conexant HSF 56k HSFi Modem (rev 01) 02:05.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB22/A IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link) 02:06.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller (rev 02) 02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller (rev 42) 02:0e.0 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB (rev 41) 02:0e.1 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB (rev 41) 02:0e.2 USB Controller: NEC Corporation USB 2.0 (rev 02) ---------------- ---- cat /proc/cpuinfo ---- [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 2 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz stepping : 4 cpu MHz : 300.000 cache size : 512 KB fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm up bogomips : 4787.05 clflush size : 64 ---------------- I can also load cpufreq_conservative, cpufreq_ondemand, cpufreq_powersave, cpufreq_stats, cpufreq_userspace and speedstep-lib without any problems. However, I can't load the following modules, speedstep-smi, speedstep- ich, acpi-cpufreq. Maybe the powernowd is loading the wrong module for my processor.
