I just assumed that the _WAK method was for all start ups, and not just suspend. Your theory makes more sense. The hpet argument works on my laptop with my custom DSDT removed. (Gets rid of the boot freeze.) The iasl compiler made the changes you pointed out automatically. I didn't even notice them.
