fire fox browser open to win4lin.com home page
win4lin iso file resident on linux accessable drive with linux file system
viewer open to the folder containing the file.
win4lin pro user's manual downloaded from site and opened in evince
additional tabs opened in firefox browser for google gmail, netzero, and ubuntu
forums
firefox download window was also open
all of this was running from the live cd ubuntu 9.04
I accidentally clicked the win4lin iso file icon and waited a few seconds after
that to see if it was going to try to load. when I didn't
see any activity that appeared to be the file opening I clicked back into
evince and began attempting to scroll upward in the document
with my wireless logitech mouse. As I was using the scroll wheel the document
disappeared. I clicked through all open programs
looking for it and then launched the document again from the download window in
firefox. The error notification window for evince
appeared, and I followed the instructions to post the bug.
However, remember that I was suspicious of my hardware at the time, because my
machine had been BSODing in windows, and had
also crashed an XP Pro installation which had been resident on the machine for
more than 2 years. It may have just been time for a fresh XP Pro installation,
but that remains to be verified. I built a new machine and used the power
supply, the DVD burner, and the IDE ribbons from that machine in the new build.
I had to reassemble the machine to start to try to recreate the bug. I put it
all back together, and both machines have been flawless ever since. I noted in
my first report of the bug that I was suspicious of the hardware I was using,
and once the hardware was disturbed recreating the bug has been unsuccessful. I
continue to try to recreate the bug with no success. If I am unable to recreate
the bug within the next three tries, I will post a suggestion that the bug be
closed, and attributed to hardware related issues. If there are additional
questions, or requests to perform other diagnostics, I will gladly perform any
steps you suggest, or answer any questions I am able to answer.
