Karmic upgrade is not screwed as Adept, Synaptic, KPackageKit are not involved, DistUpgrade python scripts are involved. Anyway Kubuntu's crew has to start thinking and planning a bit better package portfolio that DOES at least all that DOES the previous version and nothing less.
