Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel
When I set up dual-head so that the larger external screen (1280x1024) is to the left from the laptop's internal LCD panel (1280x800), with their bottoms aligned, both GNOME panels end up on the external screen. When I then alt+drag the upper gnome panel to the screen on the right, usually the main menu items get confused about the panel orientation and are displayed vertically (see the attached screenshot). To fix this I have to alt-drag the panel to the side of the screen (so it's really vertical) and then drag it back. This doesn't happen if my two screens are aligned at the top.
