In the original form this check simply prevented hibernate from working, this would have pretty much been silent with no user feedback given on failure. I am going to propose that for Jaunty we simply reinstate that level of fix, silently preventing hibernate. For Karmic we should probabally can use the notification systems to provide a reason to the user.
