Public bug reported: Binary package hint: envyng-core
Using Ubuntu 8.04.2 Server Graphics card - nvidia geforce 7050 610i Video driver - 173.14.12 The update manager reported that a new kernel package was available for my server kernel 2.6.24-24. Graphics was working fine on 2.6.24-23 (total regret upgrading... this troubleshooting was not on my todo list :( ) I had original installed nVidia drivers with EnvyNG. Worked like a champ. Compiz and all. Now when I boot, I get a window saying that I am in low graphics mode. I have tried many things but have not been able to resolve including removing and reinstalling via envyng. Reverting through grub doesn't help either. In the Xorg.0.log file i see near the top that it is using xorg.conf.failsafe instead of my xorg.conf. Following a troubleshooting suggestion, I forced the system to use the xorg.conf file and output the log to a file which is attached. The key thing seems to be that the chipset is unknown when it should be. Here is the line from the log file: (--) PCI:*(0:16:0) nVidia Corporation unknown chipset (0x07e3) rev 162, Mem @ 0xfd000000/24, 0xd0000000/28, 0xfc000000/24, BIOS @ 0xfeb40000/17 I have attached debugging logs. Love to get the fixed... Being stuck in 800x600 blows. Please help.
