I'll run up the latest 1.1.20 packages from WineHQ and see if it makes any difference. I don't think the processor is that taxed - usage is in the 20% range. The first laptop is a brand new Acer Aspire Netbook with a dual core Atom processor and the other laptop is a T5300 - which isn't that much of a slouch.
The problem is more pronounced on the slower netbook while using the USB Audio interface to the external DAC unit.
