I'm having the same problem. After doing some research, I've learned the snd_intel8x0 driver is really broken in the kernel that shipped with Jaunty, 2.6.28. It's since been fixed in newer kernels.
I tried upgrading to a newer kernel, and it does fix this issue. Unfortunately the prepackaged kernel debs I've found don't include the driver for my wifi that the Ubuntu kernel does, so I'm stuck (unless I get around to compiling my own). To be clear, this has nothing to do with pulseaudio. If you kill pulseaudio, and change your sound preferences to purely ALSA, you will still have terrible problems. It's the intel8x0 driver at fault, and there's not much that can be done to get around it. -- Jaunty: Login sound is crackly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339911 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
