Same problems here with rt2500pci. I'm using Jaunty with latest updates. My Wi-Fi adapter is 00:06.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)
Workaround described by Zak Kipling works like a charm. I wonder why the same trick but with /etc/default/acpi-support doesn't work.
