** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.28 This is on Jaunty. After switching to AC power, the display changes brightness approximately every 1.5 seconds as if the AC is being rapidly unplugged and reinserted. Other symptoms include: - - the laptops charge LED does not come back on. + - the laptops charge LED does not come back on unless AC is reconnected while in resume. - ~70% CPU usage (35 % user, 35% sys), and the load average rises to about 3.5. Processes like kacpid, kacpi_notify, dbus-daemon, hald and udevd are using CPU. If I kill gnome-power-manager the CPU usage drops to 40%, and if I run "/etc/init.d/acpid stop" it drops to 10%. By continuously reading /var/lib/acpi-support/powerstate or /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD/state, I can tell the AC states last less than one second. I do not believe this is a hardware issue because if I - suspend/resume, AC becomes stable. If AC is connected at boot it is also - initially stable, and the machine was working on Intrepid. + plug it in while in suspend then resume, AC becomes stable. If AC is + connected at boot it is also initially stable, and the machine was + working on Intrepid. It appears to me as though the BIOS and kernel are + arguing over the power state. I tried editing /etc/default/acpid and setting MODULES="" but it didn't help. Then I updated the BIOS. I also tried the acpi kernel options as follows: acpi=off X would not start due to display problems. can not reconnect AC - LED stays out once disconnected. system hangs on attempt to use brightness adjust keys. acpi=ht display flicker gone. can not reconnect AC - LED stays out once disconnected. system hangs on attempt to use brightness adjust keys. pci=noacpi display flicker gone. can not reconnect AC unless via suspend/resume - otherwise AC LED stays out once disconnected. brightness adjust keys don't work. Interestingly at this point, reading /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD/state often toggles the power mode! The display dims/brightens and the output changes between off-line/on-line. I can reproduce this on demand by running "cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD/state" a few times. Why would this happen? acpi=noirq Same results as with pci=noacpi pnpacpi=off Problem is present as with normal boot. noapic Problem is present as with normal boot. nolapic Problem is present as with normal boot. $ apt-cache policy linux-source-2.6.28 linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic linux-source-2.6.28: Installed: (none) Candidate: 2.6.28-11.42 Version table: 2.6.28-11.42 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au jaunty/main Packages linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic: Installed: 2.6.28-11.42 Candidate: 2.6.28-11.42 Version table: *** 2.6.28-11.42 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I'm also including attachments of any output I can think will be useful.
