@Bartek: Missing :-) You can apply the MTRR fix with or without the unsupported the Kernel. The new Kernel has updated internal gubbins that help on top of the MTRR change. This is the down side, esp. for distros like Ubuntu who are very allergic to changing kernels more frequently that every 6 months - some bugs in graphics can only be fixed with a new Kernel...
