I've created a small script to handle hardware mixer and brightness changes on 
Thinkpads. If you start it (perhaps fork it to the background) and change 
hardware mixer or brightness levels, you should see a notification pop up with 
the appropriate value within 1 sec (yes, i know it's not immediate, it's on the 
todo list :)
I take no responsibility for the script, so please read it through before 
executing (it does not need root privileges btw), and please share comments and 
suggestions. Thanks
