I have the same problem as described above. To explain it in a clearer way: With menu bar at the bottom of the screen, the gnome-menu (either Application or Places or Systems) shows up from time to time, after new software install, with some scroll buttons because it is shortened.
Then all the items from gnome-menu have the same behavior. It happens the first the menu is displayed, the other times are OK. It doesn't happen with menu bar at the top, like in the default scheme.
