I'm having same problem on a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H with the same chipset and fglrx 8.60.40. I'm not aware if the messages used to appear before upgrading to jaunty but I never had the freeze problem. I have downgraded the kernel to 2.6.27-14. Though the messages 'APIC error on CPU0: 00(08)' and 'APIC error on CPU1: 00(08)' still appear while fglrx is initially loading, I no longer have the 'APIC error on CPU0: 08(08)' and 'APIC error on CPU1: 08(08)' messages and have not noticed the system freeze.
