At my laptop the issue is the same: tapping does work, but double-clicking and scrolling doesn't. I just recently noticed it had something to do with standby. It is a NEC Versa P550. Haven't checked the double-switch-option. The default power-on is looking weird enough for some windows-user to suspect my laptop to be broken...
