Sorry, I did not read all the comments, but here are my 2 cents: I honestly thought I might have a virus when the Update Manager came up, and did not trust it as a valid application. This is very strange behavior, and will be quite a shock to anyone who has used a previous version of Ubuntu, or has the common sense that normal, non-malicious application windows do not normally open themselves.
