I've got the same problem, same model. this is either a driver problem
or a defect of the cd drive. I don't think I've had any problems like
this in windows, so I'm guessing it's a driver thing. which means this
is a KERNEL issue.

I also occasionally get repetitive errors in dmesg about a USB
...current ..something. I'll post that when I see it again.

are you guys by chance using an ASUS laptop? particularly this one:
