Another difference is that in my 965 xorg.log I have these lines which you don't have:
(WW) intel(0): ESR is 0x00000001 (WW) intel(0): Existing errors found in hardware state. I'm not sure exactly what that means though. I think it would be useful if you downloaded the final version of jaunty and then _completely_ powered off the laptop (to rule out that any bad state lingers on inside the graphics card) and then tried to boot of the final live CD.
