Same here. Also I can confirm that freezes only happen when BOINC is running. Furthermore, freezes almost only happen while watching videos. It was exactly the same with Ubuntu 8.10 i386 and it is still the same with Ubuntu 9.04 amd64. I don't know what the problem is, but no desktop application should be able to make the operating system freeze.
