Public bug reported:

Although all volume controls are set to maximum (Front,PCM,Master), all sound
playback gets quieter until muting in about 15s after startup. Adjusting the
volume, both with "alsamixer -c 0" and the Volume Control applet, does not help.
This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04, sound works fine with 8.04.
