update to my above comment: selecting just sda2 on "/" and no "/home"
and the installation worked.

and in case somebody else has this problem:
I just had to fiddle around in the /etc/fstab to get my /home on first startup 
(I did this immediately in recovery as root) and changing the ownership of all 
my files to the one of my first user (i.e. 1000) using "chown -R 1000:1000 
/home/<username>"
