Unsure if this is reproducible. I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 - 32 bit to 9.04 - 64 bit yesterday. Could it possibly be the 64bit upgrade that has caused the speedup in bitrate? Are there any 64 bit movie/music players? VLC movie player and Rhythmbox music player tested and found audio bitrate sped up. Additional - Opening startup audio and closing audio soun-ds running at double speed as well.
