Hi there Its a nvidia GeForce 6600 GT, and I'm using the Ubuntu restricted nvidia driver called "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 180) [Recommended].
I will do a backtrace later and upload that for more info. I have managed to work around the problem (sort of but the performance drops a lot) I did it by running gstreamer-properties from terminal and then under Video selecting the X Window System (No Xv) option. This resolves the problem but the video becomes very sluggish if I'm doing any other process... So I still think there is an underlying issue.
