** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: scim

in Jaunty, the "Smart Pinyin" Chinese input method of SCIM is missing.
With the same scim-pinyin package installed, the easiest input method
for typing simplified Chinese is missing. In Intrepid, the input method
is shown when scim-pinyin is installed.

  How to reproduce:
Go to System - Administration - Language settings and install Chinese input
support. Also tick the box for using IMEs for input.
- Restart the session, and start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose
input method - scim. See that the list of input methods has 4 entries for
traditional Chinese, none of them with the word pinyin (in English or Chinese)
in the name.
+ Restart the session, and start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose
input method - scim. See that the list of input methods has 4 entries for
simplified Chinese, none of them with the word pinyin (in English or Chinese)
in the name.

Then install Chinese support on Intrepid. restart session, start gedit.
right-click on empty space and choose input method - scim. Notice the
input method for simplified Chinese whose name is written completely in
Chinese. Notice that it is not present in Jaunty.

  Workaround: I downloaded scim-pinyin from
  http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=108454 . I
compiled it, adding #include <cstring> to a few files that did not
compile on gcc-4.3.3 otherwise. After that I ran checkinstall, and
restarted my session. The scim smart pinyin input method is now visible
and works as on Intrepid. However, scim-bridge has stopped working; I
only get this input method by choosing "scim" as the input method from
  the right-click context menu.
