Public bug reported: Binary package hint: scim
in Jaunty, the "Smart Pinyin" Chinese input method of SCIM is missing. With the same scim-pinyin package installed, the easiest input method for typing simplified Chinese is missing. In Intrepid, the input method is shown when scim-pinyin is installed. How to reproduce: Go to System - Administration - Language settings and install Chinese input support. Also tick the box for using IMEs for input. Restart the session, and start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose input method - scim. See that the list of input methods has 4 entries for traditional Chinese, none of them with the word pinyin (in English or Chinese) in the name. Then install Chinese support on Intrepid. restart session, start gedit. right-click on empty space and choose input method - scim. Notice the input method for simplified Chinese whose name is written completely in Chinese. Notice that it is not present in Jaunty.
