Oli, I think the reason this will never be done is really simple: not having elcipse package is not a problem.
At all. It's really easy to install eclipse manually, It have it's own internal update, plugins installation and dependency resolving system. Same time, any "external" update and plugins installation are complex, unreliable and... just never worse the time spent on them vs. simplicity of eclipse manual installation and self-update. Who want to kill days or even weeks on the problem that can be solved in other way in 5 minutes? Just forget about the eclipse package.
