Public bug reported:

My conf:
 Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+, ATI x1300, 5Gb RAM.
 Software: Kubuntu 9.04 beta.

To reproduce:
 1) Boot system
 2) Observe boot process. Look for visual glitches.
Note: CD-ROM has been tested for read errors. It reads perfectly, in
particular, CD test from boot menu passes successfully.

Result:
I can see at least the following UI glitches:
 1) Booting from CD takes quite long time. Maybe this causes effect that
graphic boot splash screen disappears, screen switches to text mode and I can
see messages about mDNS service startup + other services startup for several
seconds. Only then X server is starting. This causes noticeable blinking since
video mode switched 2 times (boot splash -> text mode -> X server).
 2) When KDE starting, there is strange long pauses while reading from CD-ROM.
System does nothing meaningful at these times, CD-ROM just does nothing in such
scenario and it is also not looks like system's CPU is very loaded. Then, after
some 10-15 seconds reading resumes and KDE boots further. Even if system does
something that causes that system MUST wait these seconds for something, it is
very smart to pre-cache (i.e. pre-read) data which will be required later so
CD-ROM drive does something useful at same time. I suspect there could be made
a good improvement in Kubuntu CD-ROM booting speed.
3) When KDE starting further, in the middle screen becomes all-white and looks
like KDE crashes or encounters problem. White screen appears for several
seconds. Then, looks like KDE loading starts again, KDE's startup progress
icons are starting appear from 1st icon again. Looks like it hits disk cache
and load occurs much faster than before. At this point KDE able to load
successfully.

Expected result:
System should load faster and without such awful visual glitches. Right now it
does not looks like well-polished system of good quality.
