ubuntu 8.10 with nvidia 8400gs graphic card with two screens and xinerama(no
randr extension).
1)i upgraded to 180 drivers
2)added this lines in xorg
Option "PixmapCacheSize" "1000000"
Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0"
3)Run this after X has started:
# nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1
4)added option "MigrationHeuristics" "greedy" in xorg.conf

Now firefox is much more responsive, but while using google maps or
simple resizing gnome-terminal Xorg eats cpu around 50-100%.

i attached oprofile report. I think the battlecneck is somewhere in
nvidia drivers, maybe in interface "linux kernel(vmlinux)" - "nvidia
userspace(nvidia_drv.so)", which eats most cpu cycles.
