I can confirm that this problem still exists on the edgy eft. I have a fresh install of 6.10 and am using a Matrox G550 AGP card with default xorg drivers. I get this problem when selecting certain screensavers in Screensaver Preferences. Most screensavers do not give any preview and instead hang the Screensaver Preferences window after a while. If this screensaver remains selected and is activated when machine is idle it results in a complete hanging of the system only fixed by doing a cold boot. Fortunately the screensaver can be reset to blank-only with gconf-editor. Maybe I have been unlucky, but the only screensaver I have managed to get to work is the FiberLamp one, although I have not done thorough testing.
