@Thorsten: so you are saying that this is not fixable in the shells themselves. But I am pretty sure that this thing worked in intrepid where I was always using the gnome-terminal as emulator. So then it's a bug in gnome-terminal? Problem is I cannot find these exact keybindings in "Edit" "Keyboard shortcuts".
