Which version of gossip-telepathy are you using? It seems to be present
for at least 0.21~svn20070107-0ubuntu1, and the changelog indicates it
is not a recent edition.
Also note that gossip-telepathy installs the included .desktop file as
/usr/share/applications/gossip.desktop, which may be confusing.
