Just to note for others who find this bug - there is another kernel available particularly for the aspire one. You can get it from
http://www.aspireonekernel.com/ http://www.kuki.me/downloads/ It's officially for the kuki distribution (which is based on ubuntu jaunty) but works fine with stock ubuntu.
