OK, confirming the BUG, running ubuntu ibex 8.10 , Intel Core2 Duo e7400, Asus P5Q-EM with HDMI out cable, when running this with a VGA cable, no flickering at all, and only since using the HDMI out on the Motherboard have i started seeing the flickering.
