I found out that Ubuntu 8.10 already comes with the acerhk module
precompiled. It just doesn't get loaded automatically. So I took care of
that and now I can at least activate my wireless card if I do a:

sudo echo 1 > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled

I know there's a way to have this command run at bootup, I just have to find it
again.
I also downloaded the jaunty jackalope beta live cd and did a test run without
the acerhk module and it seems that the problem remains the same with that
version.
