Damned. This is really strange...

So my last resort before giving up is the following:

Please call
        xdvi -debug -1 example.dvi >xdvi.log 2>&1
and attach it as usual. No idea whether I will find something in it, but
it is my last hope.

BTW, is it the only problem making problems, or do you have other
problems regarding the X server?
