The failsafe mode did allow me to analyse the error and see the log files. So presumably, we know that the HW is in a bad state as shown by the Xorg.0.log from that particular bug:
(WW) intel(0): PRB0_CTL (0x0001f001) indicates ring buffer enabled (WW) intel(0): PRB0_HEAD (0x7341d4dc) and PRB0_TAIL (0x0001d638) indicate ring buffer not flushed (WW) intel(0): Existing errors found in hardware state. Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds What was interesting to me is the fact that the graphics HW was still capable of running is some low-res mode (framebuffer?). So perhaps it wasn't completely unrecoverable after all? -- failsafe mode needs to not suggest reconfiguration if graphics hardware in inconsistent state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
