>From reading those logs it looks like just dumb luck that it worked properly for the standard Ubuntu 9.04 install. I would suspect repeated attempts at the Ubuntu 9.04 install would also fail with some undetermined probability. The portion of the install that failed in the log shows this:

You'll need to find the Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old from /var/log when this happens to see why it crashed. Add those to this bug and we'll get the appropriate tasks added for that X source package(s).
