Public bug reported:

Here is my problem: I made a migration to jaunty beta from Intrepid, with an
.ISO image. Now everything works much however I have a very serious problem: it
is impossible to have the command line! if I start gnome-terminal I receive an
error like "!" There was an error during the creation of the son process for
this terminal! Anyway, all terminal programs give me the same thing: a window
without prompt!
I can't installl or reinstall gnome-terminal, because now, in Synaptic I obtain
a "failure of cloning pty" message and of course nothing is done.
So, I changed my console with <Ctrl><Alt F3> and I installed using dpkg-i the
two gnome-terminal packages from http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/gnome/ .
After I run sudo apt-get -f install, and then sudo apt-get update ... And I
return on <Ctrl><Alt F7> my gnome desktop but I have always the same. And,
Synaptic is too bugged...
Without information I did not know what to do. it'sa shame because it could be
very simple ...
So,finally I run an installation and not a migration with a CD (and
safeguarding /home before) :( and now all is fine!
