Public bug reported:

Using a Dell Dimension 4600C with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM and
either the i848 or i865 chipset (as reported by memtest) the system
hangs on booting either the LiveCD or selecting the Install option.

When choosing the Install option from the boot menu the system never
makes it to the first installation screen.. Pushing the eject button on
the CD drive door does cause some CD Drive activity for two or three
second but nothing happens after waiting thirty seconds or so. Also
pushing the power button momentarily does elicit some CD drive activity
but with no shutdown. No visible error messages on any of the virtual
consoles.

When booting into Live mode the screen shows the background and the hard
disk icon comes into focus but it does not progress any further. I was
not able to find any error message either.

I do have a functional Intrepid install on the computer and was hoping
to o a clean install of the beta.

Thank you.
Bill
